While You're Here

We hope that, in addition to celebrating with us throughout the wedding weekend, you are also able to spend time exploring Florence if your schedule allows.

Here are some of our favorite places in the city to help you build your itinerary!

Must-Sees

The Duomo

Florence's iconic cathedral and a symbol of the city. Admire Brunelleschi's dome from below or climb to the top for panoramic views, an activity we saved for the last day of our study abroad!

Ponte Vecchio

The city's most famous bridge, lined with historic jewelry shops. While it's beautiful to walk across, our favorite views are actually from nearby Ponte alle Grazie, where you can view the more iconic bridge with the rest of Florence.

Uffizi Galleries

The one museum you absolutely must visit, with masterpieces by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael.

Accademia Gallery

Known for hosting the iconic Michelangelo's David, not to be confused with the replica outside Palazzo Vecchio.

Piazzale Michelangelo

The most famous viewpoint in Florence, with incredible panoramic views of the city, like the photo featured on this page. Sunrise is much less busy than sunset!

Special Places to Us

Giunti Odeon

The historic theater-bookstore where we had our first (and second) date. Originally built as a movie theater in the 1920s, it remains one of our favorite places in Florence and even made its way onto our Save the Date card.

The Boboli Gardens

A beautiful hillside garden behind Pitti Palace where Amelia asked Armando to go out. With winding paths through statues, fountains, and views of Florence, it's a wonderful place to wander.

Museo Galileo

During our semester abroad, we took a course together on the intersection of Italian art and science that was taught here by the museum's director. The museum houses a collection of scientific instruments, including many associated with Galileo himself (and his preserved finger!), and offers a fascinating glimpse into Florence's role in the history of scientific discovery.

Venchi

A classic chocolate and gelato shop that became a staple of our time abroad. We spent many late nights wandering Florence with one of their chocolate hazelnut crepes in hand!

Less Visited Favorites

San Miniato al Monte

A beautiful basilica above Florence with some of the best views in the city and likely quieter than nearby Piazzale Michelangelo. Don't miss the small monastery shop selling products made by the monks and the daily evening Gregorian chants (a favorite of Amelia's)!

Scuola del Cuoio

Florence is known for its leather craftsmanship, and this working leather school behind Santa Croce gives insight into that tradition. Visitors can tour the school, observe students at work, participate in workshops, and shop for leather goods.

Santa Croce

While famous, Santa Croce is often overshadowed by Florence's bigger landmarks. This church is home to the tombs of many of Italy's most influential figures, including Michelangelo, Galileo, and Machiavelli, and was right down the street from Amelia's host home during our time in Florence.

Mercato delle Pulci

A daily flea market for anyone who enjoys hunting for antiques, vintage treasures, and unexpected finds.
